Prime Minister Thaçi: Kosovo’s membership in EBRD testified that the process of the recognition of the Kosovo as a democratic and sovereign country has taken an irreversible up-turn and is recognized as an historical fact

The 102nd regular meeting of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo was held under that chairmanship of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi. This meeting approved the draft law on amendments and supplementation of Law no. 03/1-I-199 on Courts and that it supplemented the Government Decision no. 02/93 dated October 4, 2012 on increasing pensions in Kosovo.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prime Minister Thaçi stated that membership of the Republic of Kosovo in the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is excellent and very meaningful news for the state and the citizens of Kosovo.

“For two years now, together with our partners we have conducted an extraordinary battle that the Republic of Kosovo becomes a full member and a beneficiary of the investment of European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Kosovo’s membership in EBRD is yet another reflection of the trust of western countries in Kosovar democracy”, stated Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi.

“Another benefit of this membership will be the economic one as this bank invest in countries in transition and that in private businesses, local banks, public-private projects, but also in Municipalities” – stated Mr. Thaçi.

“It is expected that in its first years of membership, Kosovo would benefit in dozens of millions in Euros, with affordable loan terms but also with concrete projects. Kosovo’s membership in EBRD is another testimony to the Balkans normalization process and of that the process of the recognition of the Kosovo as a democratic and sovereign country has taken an irreversible up-turn and is recognized as an historical fact” stated Prime Minister Thaçi.

On this event, the Prime Minister also noted that a decision has been issued for the establishment of the Inter-Ministerial and Trans-Institutional Committee that is composed of respective ministries and will ensure that businesses and investment projects in Kosovo will have quick and accurate information on the manner of financing by EBRD.

Prime Minister Thaçi presented before the government cabinet that he has received the official confirmation by the state of Fiji on recognizing the Republic of Kosovo.

This meeting also approved the draft law on amending and supplementing Law no. 03/L-199 on Court with the aim of amending and supplementing the provision related to abrogating other laws, namely abrogating the Law on Minor Offences.

The approval of this draft-law with aims at amending and supplementing provision of Law no. 03/L-199 on Court in order to ensure that the Law on Minor Offences remains in force after Law no. 03/L-199 on Courts enters into force.

Kosovo Government Decision no. 02/93 has also been amended by adding two more items. By the new decision, the pension will increase also for Kosovo Protection Corps (KPC) at the amount of 40%. The 26.25% of this pension increase shall be payable to users as of January 1, 2012, whereas the other part of this pension increase shall be payable as of January 1, 2013.
