Prime Minister Mustafa: expansion of the road in Veternik will offer Prishtina a magnificent view and functionality

Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, accompanied by the Minister of Infrastructure, Lutfi Zharku, took part on the commencement of works for the expansion of Prishtine-Veternik road.

This is the first road in Kosovo to have 4 lanes in one direction, pavements with lighting and cycling path.

Prime Minister Isa Mustafa said that the commencement of works to expand the roads, is an investment to capital city.
“It is an entry which will be great not only in appearance, but also in terms of functionality, because now we have two ways of four lanes and the rest of infrastructure for pedestrians and cycling. The other part of the road construction up to the junction of the Palace of Justice is a very important step, because it marks the beginning of the ring for Prishtina, which can later relieve the traffic of vehicles for the city of Prishtina and the expansion of the ring as it has been provided with the project", said Prime Minister Mustafa.

Prime Minister Mustafa praised the investments in road infrastructure as a very important investment, not only in terms of the amount of 9 million Euros expected to be invested in this area, but also in terms of functionality and obligations to create better conditions for citizens.

Minister of Infrastructure, Lutfi Zharku, said that the expansion of the road will be made in four lanes, including also the cycling path, lighting and pavements for pedestrians.
“It is an investment of three million Euros and in addition, I informed the Prime Minister that we have started relieving Prishtina road or traffic for all citizens. By the end of 2015 we had bypass that connected to motorway "Ibrahim Rugova" and the motorway that continued to Skopje. This year we are continuing with the expansion of roads by QMI to Veternik and expansion of roads from Prishtina towards Fushe Kosova", said Minister Zharku, noting that the expansion from Veternik bridge going to the Palace of Justice, where there will be a roundabout, is in the tendering procedure.

Minister Zharku, also stated that it is being worked on the redesigning of the entire connection or bridge which is known as Veternik bridge.
In addition, the minister said that there are also several other projects in Prishtina Municipality, asphalting the road Dheu i Kuq - Mutivodë, then the road Hajkobille-Zajqevc-Stallove up to new Marec and other projects.
“Total investment in the municipality of Prishtina for this year will be close to 9 million Euros", said Minister Zharku.

This road segment, on which the works began today, will be expanded on both sides of the road with two new lanes with a width of 3.5 meters for each lane. Also, both sides of the road will have constructed pavements with lighting and cycling paths.

The project is planned to be carried out with two lots. Lot 1 will be Prishtina - Veternik direction, the left side of the road, which under the contract is expected to be finalized within 150 working days, with a length of 1.5 kilometers and a cost of EUR 1,589,674.34, while Lot 2 is the direction Prishtina - Veternik, the right side of the road, with a length of 1.5 kilometers and a cost of EUR 1,374,516.70. The works of lot 2, under the contract, are expected to be finalized within 110 working days.
