The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, on the World Diabetes Day, expresses the commitment of the Government to align, with all its capacities, near the sick and their families, to prevent, identify and handle as much as possible in the most effective way the disease and its consequences. It will do so by developing national disease policies, providing full health protection to the affected and subsidizing through the essential list of medicines for their treatment.

Fighting diabetes, according to Prime Minister Haradinaj, is part of the Government's Health Improvement Program aiming at better access to health services, better quality of services, and the establishment of a sustainable health financing system.

With nearly half a billion sick in the world, diabetes is a global problem. Unfortunately, it is a growing problem, and Kosovo is no exception. In addition to the very serious problems that cause illness for the sick, it also represents a great economic burden for themselves, their families and the states. Although there are no accurate data on the number of Diabetes patients receiving oral therapy, it is known that there are more than 11,000 patients that take insulin in Kosovo.
