The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Avdullah Hoti, attended today the celebration of Rosh Hashanah 5781 or the Jewish New Year 5781, an event organized by the Chief Rabbi of Albania.
In front of numerous attendees, participants in this ceremony, Prime Minister Hoti said that it is a pleasure to be together to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, one of the holiest days marking the creation of the world and the beginning of the Days of a 10-day period of repentance, culminating with the Day of Atonement.
I wish that during the festive days you have spiritual enrichment while reading Machzor. The blowing of the shofar made of rams’ horns is a reminder to the Hebrews that the Lord is their King. According to tradition, after the religious service, you return to the family table for food and meditation. As your favourite food for this holiday is apple with honey, I wish that your year is blessed just like that”, said Prime Minister Hoti.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Hoti reminded that the Republic of Kosovo is a secular parliamentary democracy, which guarantees religious freedom and equality, emphasizing that they welcome the participation of Jewish culture and their representatives at all institutional levels.
“This time Rosh Hashanah is special as it is a holiday which marks the Kosovo – Israel mutual recognition. The Jewish community of Kosovo is an important link in our relations. We will soon establish our diplomatic relations with the friendly state of Israel and beyond that we will deepen our relations in every direction”, said Prime Minister Hoti, wishing all believers a happy Rosh Hashanah 5871.
At the end, greetings from the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, were conveyed through a letter addressed to the people of Kosovo and the Jewish community of Kosovo.
A video message from Richard Grenell, President Trump’s special envoy, was also shown at the event.
